The Greater Outdoors of Marin

Incredible outdoor adventures are around every corner when you live at The Strand. From peaceful sailing to kicking up dirt on the trail with a mountain bike, you are close to the best places in Northern California to get outside and be active.

Just thirty minutes from The Strand, truly awe-inspiring hiking awaits at the Muir Woods National Monument. Make your way through the coast redwoods, which soar to heights of over 250 feet, and connect to nature in a place that’s timeless – the oldest of the trees is at least 1,200 years old. Take a stroll amidst over 240 acres of redwoods in one of the last old-growth stands in the Bay Area.

Be sure to pack the kayak, paddleboard, hiking shoes and binoculars. Only two miles from the Muir Woods, Muir Beach is a destination that will call you back again and again. This quiet cove is listed as one of the cleanest in California and a local favorite for getting in the water. From sunbathing at the northernmost end of the beach to hands-on farming activities at Slide Ranch, there’s something for everyone. And Muir Beach is also in the path of the annual monarch butterfly migration in the fall and a prime spot for whale watching from the overlook hiking trail and beach.

Further up the coast, Point Reyes National Seashore is an area treasure. This is your place to partake in an authentic wilderness experience with hike-in and boat-in camping, tour the Point Reyes Lighthouse, discover the tapestry of cultures that have called the area home over thousands of years and enjoy ranger-led seasonal activities.

Only two miles from The Strand, 101 Surf Sports is your one-stop shop for paddleboards, kayaks, surfboards and more. They provide all the gear you need and lessons to help you get started. After you’re set, you can head out from the kayak launch at Loch Lomond Marina or to many great destinations within minutes of home, like China Camp State Park, McNears Beach and Paradise Beach Park.
